The Indian Railways is working to construct the new Pamban Bridge in Tamil Nadu to restore the Rameswaram and Dhanushkodi rail link which was destroyed in 1964 due to Tsunami and was never built again. As per a statement, the new Bridge will prove to be a milestone in the history of Southern Railways and will cost more than Rs 700 crores once completed. Under the new proposal, there will be 13 kilometers of elevated track from the ground in the line of 18 kilometers and will help tourists coming to Rameswaram by providing with an easier option to reach Dhanushkodi. Notably, till December 1964, Dhanushkodi was a popular station, which was directly connected to Mandapam station in Tamil Nadu. At that time, Dhanushkodi station was an important point of contact between Ceylon in Sri Lanka and Mandapam in India, when a train also used to run under the name of Boat Mail. Here’s an image gallery highlighting the construction updates of the Pamban Bridge.
