Royal Challengers Bangalore received a major blow ahead of their Qualifier 2 match against Rajasthan Royals at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahemdabad on Friday (May 27). RCB’s star middle-order batsman Dinesh Karthik has been reprimanded for breaching IPL’s Code of Conduct during his team’s Eliminator match against Lucknow Super Giants on May 25th at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Karthik admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.3 of the IPL Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding.
“Mr Karthik admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.3 of the IPL Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction,” the IPL said in a statement.
“For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the match referee’s decision is final and binding,” it added.
The statement has not revealed the reason behind of what Karthik has done. The right-handed wicket-keeper batter scored a valuable 37 runs off just 27 balls for his team against the Lucknow Super Giants.
Recently, Karthik was picked for India’s upcoming T20I series against South Africa after his impressive performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Notably, Karthik will be seen in Indian colours after almost 2 years as he was sidelined from the squad after India’s 2019 ODI World Cup semi-final exit.
The veteran wicketkeeper who’s turning 37 next week, credited the national team selectors for trusting him and selecting him for the Proteas series despite having young talent available.
Talking about the IPL 2022 Eliminator 1, Karthik was also instrumental in Bangalore taking 84 runs off the last five overs as Rajat Patidar slammed 12 boundaries and seven sixes for scoring an unbeaten 112 off just 54 balls, carrying Bangalore to a mammoth 207/4.
In reply, Lucknow fell 14 runs short, ending at 193/6 in 20 overs. The winner of Qualifier 2 between Bangalore and Rajasthan will face Gujarat Titans in the title clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday.
