The Prime Minister said that some political parties raised a lot of slogans to eliminate poverty but not enough was done to empower the poor.
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday launched ‘Griha Pravesham’ of about 5.21 lakh beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana – Gramin in Madhya Pradesh, via video conferencing. The ‘Griha Pravesham’ ceremony started at 12:30 pm.
The Prime Minister said that women too have the ownership rights of around two crore houses built under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. “This right has strengthened the participation of women in making other financial decisions in the household. This is a matter of case study in big universities across the world,” the Prime Minister said.
Modi also said that some political parties raised a lot of slogans to eliminate poverty but not enough was done to empower the poor. “I believe when the poor get empowered, it gives them courage to fight poverty. When efforts of an honest government come together with that of an empowered poor, poverty loses,” news agency ANI quoted Modi as saying.
Modi said that the Nal-Jal scheme has provided six crore families with pure water tap connections in their houses, news agency PTI reported.
The Prime Minister further said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government has given around 2.5 crore houses to the poor, and that the last government — the one before the BJP government — built only a few lakh houses for the poor in their tenure. “Our government has given around 2.5 crore houses to the poor. Of these, two crore houses have been built in villages. In the last two years, despite obstacles due to Covid-19, the work didn’t slow down,” he added.
“Be it the BJP government in the Centre, or the BJP governments in the states, walking with the mantra of ‘sabka saath sabka vikas’, all of them are working to empower the poor,” the Prime Minister added.
“It has been a constant endeavour of the Prime Minister to provide a pucca house with all basic amenities to every needy family of the country and this marks yet another step in this direction,” a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office said.
At the event, traditional celebrations using conches, lamps, flowers, and rangoli were organised in the newly built houses in Madhya Pradesh.
The PMAY-G, which been implemented in Madhya Pradesh with many unique and innovative steps like training thousands of masons, including women masons using fly ash bricks, has worked on empowering women’s self-help groups (SHGs) by providing them loans for centering material and using technology for better execution and monitoring of projects.
According to a PTI report, 24.10 lakh houses have been built under the PMAY-G scheme in Madhya Pradesh.
Among these, 23,000 houses are for people from the Baiga, Saharia, and Bharia tribal communities.
