Weather Forecast: IMD in its latest weather forecast said that dense to very dense fog conditions will persist over the Indo-Gangetic plains for the next two days.
Dense fog returned to Delhi and its surrounding areas, including Noida and Ghaziabad, on Friday morning, reducing visibility to zero in some locations. The fog coincided with worsening air quality, with Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at a severe 409 at 6:05 am, as per the Sameer app.

The Indira Gandhi International Airport issued an advisory warning of possible flight disruptions. Earlier in the week, Delhi and NCR cities experienced blinding fog between January 2 and 3, with visibility dropping to zero for an unprecedented nine-hour stretch, marking the longest fog spell of the season, according to the weather department.
Meanwhile, the IMD in its latest weather forecast said that dense to very dense fog conditions will persist over the Indo-Gangetic plains for the next two days, with an improvement expected thereafter. Additionally, a wet spell is anticipated over Northwest India from January 10 to 12, 2025, due to the influence of a western disturbance and its interaction with easterly winds.

MeT predicts snowfall in Shimla, higher reaches of Himachal
Shimla and other mid and high hills of Himachal Pradesh are likely to witness snowfall this weekend as a western disturbance, a cyclonic circulation over southwest Iran, is expected to move east-northeastward, according to the Shimla Meteorological Department. A yellow warning has been issued for cold wave conditions, ground frost, and dense fog at isolated places in Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kangra, and Mandi districts on Friday.
The MeT office has forecast light to moderate snowfall in parts of the mid and high hills, including Shimla, from Saturday evening to Sunday midnight. Rain is also expected in low-lying and plain areas during this period. The state has been experiencing a severe cold wave, with Una recording a night temperature of -0.5 degree Celsius. Kukumseri in Lahaul and Spiti was the coldest, with temperatures plunging to -11.3 degree Celsius, while Una recorded a daytime high of 22.6 degree Celsius. Ground frost was reported in Bilaspur and Jubbarhatti near Shimla.

Jammu and Kashmir weather forecast
The Meteorological Department has predicted predominantly dry weather for the next two days, with a possibility of light rain or snow in isolated areas on Saturday. It also indicated that minimum temperatures in the Valley are likely to drop further, with an isolated cold wave expected in the coming days.
Kashmir is currently experiencing ‘Chillai-Kalan,’ the harshest winter period that started on December 21. This 40-day phase is marked by the highest likelihood of snowfall and a significant drop in temperatures.
IMD rainfall warning
The IMD has predicted light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning in a few areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal from January 11 to 13, and in Kerala and Mahe on January 12 and 13. Isolated heavy rainfall is also likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on January 12. Additionally, light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is expected at isolated locations in the northeastern states on January 13.
