Passenger plane carrying over 100 passengers crash in Kazakhstan, authorities say six people have survived

The aircraft, reportedly operated by Azerbaijan Airlines, was en route from Baku to Grozny in Russia’s Chechnya region but had been diverted due to heavy fog in Grozny.

A passenger plane crashed near the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan on Wednesday, with initial reports indicating there were survivors, according to a statement from the country’s Emergencies Ministry.

Local authorities have claimed that six people from the plane have survived the crash, Reuters reported. Emergency responders were working to extinguish a fire at the crash site, the ministry added.

Russian news outlets reported that the aircraft, operated by Azerbaijan Airlines, was en route from Baku to Grozny in Russia’s Chechnya region but had been diverted due to heavy fog in Grozny. Azerbaijan Airlines has not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident.

Local Kazakh media reported that the plane was carrying 105 passengers and five crew members.
