The Congress party on Tuesday released its second list of 26 candidates for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, including Farhad Suri, who will contest against AAP’s Manish Sisodia from Jangpura. The party also gave tickets to former AAP MLAs Asim Khan and Devender Sehrawat.

With this announcement, Congress has declared 47 candidates for the 70-member Delhi Assembly.
Khan, who joined Congress on Monday, will contest from Matia Mahal, while Sehrawat, also a former AAP MLA, has been fielded from Bijwasan.

In addition to Suri, the Congress fielded Satish Luthra from Shakur Basti, Rajesh Lilothia from Seemapuri (SC), Haji Mohammad Ishraq Khan from Babarpur, Rajesh Chauhan from Deoli (SC), Pradeep Kumar Upmanyu from Delhi Cantt, and Sumit Sharma from Laxmi Nagar.

Congress also named Delhi chief Devender Yadav from Badli, former Delhi minister Haroon Yusuf from Ballimaran, former Delhi Congress chief Chaudhary Anil Kumar from Patparganj, national spokesperson Ragini Nayak from Wazirpur, and Adarsh Shastri from Dwarka.

The second list was approved by the Congress’ Central Election Committee (CEC), which met ahead of the elections. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and former party chief Rahul Gandhi participated in the CEC meeting via video conferencing, while Delhi in-charge Qazi Mohammad Nizamuddin and Delhi unit chief Devender Yadav, among other CEC members, attended in person.
Following the meeting, Nizamuddin told reporters that a detailed discussion took place, with several seats being cleared by the CEC. “All 70 seats are important for us. We will try to fight strongly on all seats,” he said.
The Delhi Assembly elections are likely to be held in February next year.
