PM Modi unveils ‘Mai-Behan Maan Yojana’ to empower women, announces Rs 2,500 direct transfer

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday announced the launch of the ‘Mai-Behan Maan Yojana,’ a welfare scheme aimed at empowering women across the country. Under this initiative, Rs 2,500 will be directly transferred into the accounts of women, providing financial relief amid rising inflation. Speaking in the Lok Sabha during a special discussion on the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution, Modi stressed that empowering women politically and economically is crucial for India’s progress.

“I firmly believe that until women are empowered politically and economically, our goals cannot be achieved. The biggest feedback we’ve received is about inflation, which women are struggling with,” Modi said. He further announced the launch of the ‘Mai-Behan Maan Yojana,’ a welfare scheme that, if his government is elected, will directly transfer Rs 2,500 into women’s accounts to alleviate the financial burden many are facing.

The Prime Minister also reflected on the role of women in the framing of the Constitution, stating, “Women played a crucial role in strengthening the Constitution.” He went on to emphasize the growing contribution and representation of women in various sectors. “The number of women MPs in this house is continuously increasing, and so is their contribution. Their role in the Council of Ministers is also expanding. Today, whether it is the social sector, political arena, education, sports, or the creative world, women’s contribution and representation in every field of life has been commendable for the country,” he added. Modi specifically praised women’s growing influence in science and space technology, citing their outstanding contributions in these areas as a source of national pride.

Modi also recalled India’s G-20 presidency, saying the country presented the idea of women-led development to the world, aligning with the values enshrined in the Constitution. “During India’s G-20 presidency, we presented the idea of women-led development to the world. The need for progress through women’s development is crucial globally,” he noted. He also pointed to the passing of the “Nari Shakti Bandhan Act” in Parliament, a move aimed at ensuring the active participation of women in India’s democratic processes.
