IMD Weather Forecast: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of ‘cold wave to severe cold wave’ conditions in parts of North India, including Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. IMD scientist Soma Sen Roy cautioned that temperatures could drop by 1-2 degrees Celsius due to prevailing winds in the region. She also stated that the cold wave is expected to persist for one to two days across North and Central India.

IMD rainfall warning
Furthermore, the IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in Tamil Nadu on December 17 and 18, with isolated heavy rainfall also likely between December 16 and 19. In Kerala, isolated heavy rainfall is expected on December 18 and 19. Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, and South Interior Karnataka are also likely to experience heavy rainfall at isolated places on December 17 and 18.
The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are expected to see heavy rainfall at isolated locations on December 15. Additionally, light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by isolated thunderstorms and lightning, is very likely over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry from December 15 to 18, and over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on December 17 and 18.

Cold wave conditions grips Delhi
The weather department has predicted misty conditions for Sunday, with temperatures expected to range between a high of 23 degrees Celsius and a low of 7 degrees Celsius. On Thursday, Delhi recorded its coldest temperature of the season, dropping to 4.5 degrees Celsius.
Cold wave sweeps Punjab, Haryana
Cold weather continued to grip several parts of Haryana and Punjab on Saturday, with Faridkot experiencing the region’s lowest temperature at 1 degree Celsius, according to the meteorological department. Other cold spots in Punjab included Pathankot (2.3 degrees Celsius), Gurdaspur (2.8 degrees Celsius), and Bathinda (3.4 degrees Celsius).
Amritsar recorded 3.4 degrees Celsius, Ludhiana 7.8 degrees Celsius, and Patiala 6 degrees Celsius. In Haryana, Karnal saw temperatures drop to 4 degrees Celsius, while Hisar and Bhiwani recorded 4.1 degrees Celsius. Narnaul experienced a piercing chill with a low of 4.5 degrees Celsius, while Rohtak and Ambala recorded 6.8 degrees Celsius and 7.5 degrees Celsius, respectively. Chandigarh, the shared capital of both states, registered a minimum of 6.6 degrees Celsius.

Severe cold wave conditions in parts of Rajasthan
A severe cold wave continued to affect many parts of Rajasthan, with Fatehpur in Sikar district recording the lowest temperature at minus 1.3 degrees Celsius, according to IMD. Other areas also experienced freezing temperatures, including Karauli (1.9 degrees Celsius), Churu (2.4 degrees Celsius), and Bhilwara (2.6 degrees Celsius). Sirohi recorded 3.0 degrees Celsius, Chittorgarh 3.2 degrees Celsius, Pilani 4.0 degrees Celsius, Jaipur 4.5 degrees Celsius, and Sangaria 4.9 degrees Celsius.
The weather remained mostly dry over the past 24 hours, and the IMD indicated that cold wave conditions are expected to persist in the region.
Met forecasts cold wave in valley
The Meteorological Department has forecast mainly dry weather until December 21, but warned of further drops in temperature and a cold wave across the valley over the next three days. The minimum temperature dropped across Kashmir on Saturday, with Srinagar recording -4.6 degrees Celsius, and Pahalgam being the coldest at -8.4 degrees Celsius. Gulmarg saw a low of -7.6 degrees Celsius, while other areas like Qazigund, Kupwara, and Kokernag recorded temperatures between -4.2 degrees Celsius and -5.6 degrees Celsius.
