Food delivery major Zomato on Thursday said it has received a GST demand order of Rs 401.7 crore for non-payment of the tax on delivery charges between October 29, 2019, and March 31, 2022.

With the penalty and interest component of similar amount, the total tax demand is Rs 803.4 crore.

“We believe we have a strong case on merits which is backed by opinions from our external legal and tax advisers,” the company said, adding it would file an appeal against the order before the appropriate authority.
Earlier in September, the company had received a similar GST notice of Rs 17.7 crore in West Bengal for non-payment of the tax on delivery charges. Before that, it had received a notice of Rs 9.45 crore in Bengaluru in July.

In April, it received a GST notice of Rs 11.82 crore in Gurugram on export services provided to its subsidiaries located outside India from July 2017 to March 2021.
The shares of the Gurugram-headquartered company closed 2.36% down on the BSE on Thursday at Rs 284.90 apiece
