Weather Update Today: Delhi’s first winter rain brings pollution relief, dip in mercury expected across north

With winter taking hold across the country, the coming weeks are expected to bring colder temperatures and potential cold waves in several regions.

Today’s Weather News: Delhi and NCR experienced the season’s first winter rain on Sunday, bringing more relief from rising pollution levels. The light rain, while brief, has helped slow down the increasing smog in the region. This shift in weather also signals an impending dip in temperatures, with the mercury in Delhi expected to fall by 2-3 degrees in the coming days. Similarly, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are likely to see a drop in temperature, while parts of the hill states have already recorded sub-zero temperatures.

Delhi weather update

Delhi is expected to wake up to moderate fog on Monday, with clear skies forecasted for the rest of the day. The maximum temperature will hover around 23 degrees Celsius, and the minimum will drop to 8 degrees. Moderate fog will persist on December 10 and 11, with similar temperatures.

From December 12 to 14, light fog is anticipated, accompanied by a slight rise in temperature due to a mild western disturbance. During this period, the maximum temperature may reach 25 degrees, while the minimum will range between 6 to 8 degrees. However, by December 25, there is a possibility of a slight increase in cold, though temperatures are expected to remain above normal levels.

Punjab and Haryana brace for cold wave

Punjab is set to experience dense fog today, followed by clear skies. The maximum temperature will settle at 22 degrees Celsius, with a minimum of 7 degrees. A cold wave is likely to grip the state on December 11 and 12, marking the onset of more intense winter conditions.

Haryana will also wake up to dense fog, with colder days expected post-December 10. Cold wave conditions are predicted for December 11 and 12, with Chandigarh’s mercury already dipping below 10 degrees.

In the northern hilly states, the chill is intensifying. Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh will have clear skies today, but places like Kupwara, Gulmarg and Pahalgam will continue to experience sub-zero temperatures. Other areas in these regions will see minimum temperatures between 2-3 degrees Celsius.

Uttarakhand will have clear weather today, with temperatures ranging between 17 degrees maximum and 2-4 degrees minimum. Popular tourist destinations like Badrinath, Auli and Chopta are already recording sub-zero temperatures, enhancing the winter charm with snowfall. Himachal Pradesh is also seeing similar conditions, with clear skies today and dense fog alerts for December 10 and 11.

Rain alerts for UP and Bihar

Uttar Pradesh is on a rain alert for Monday, with light to moderate showers expected in 43 districts, including Lucknow, Lakhimpur Kheri, Shravasti and Bahraich. This rain will likely lead to a further decline in nighttime and morning temperatures.

In Bihar, scattered rain is expected in some areas, while other regions will remain dry. The state continues to witness maximum temperatures of up to 28 degrees Celsius, with minimum temperatures at 10-12 degrees.

With winter taking hold across the country, the coming weeks are expected to bring colder temperatures and potential cold waves in several regions.
