While schools remained closed for many days in November due to Diwali, Chhath Puja, and other festivals, children will not miss any holidays in December as well. Schools in North India will be closed due to winter vacation. Furthermore, all schools will remain closed on the occasion of Christmas on December 25, 2024.

By this time, winter vacation starts in many states including North India, that is, UP, Delhi, Bihar, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh. Winter holidays in December are decided only after looking at the weather. No order is issued for these in advance. Talking about North India, winter holidays are announced in most states by the last week of December. Winter vacation is usually held from January 1 to 14 in most states. However, this decision is left to the district officials. Schools are directed to take winter break according to the weather in their district.
Students and parents must note that there will be four Saturdays and five Sundays in December 2024. Most schools are closed on both Saturdays and Sundays or the second/last Saturday of the month.

Schools in Chennai remained closed on November 29 due to a heavy rain alert in the state. Chennai District Collector Rashmi Siddharth Zagade announced a holiday for all schools from classes 1 to 12 on Friday to Cyclone Fengal. On Saturday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the cyclonic storm ‘Fengal’ has begun to make landfall near the coast of Puducherry.
