Weather Update: IMD continues red alert for Tamil Nadu, Karaikal and Puducherry for third day as Cyclone Fengal weakens

The India Meteorological Department has retained its red alert for the third day for intense downpours in Tamil Nadu, Kariakal, and Puducherry.

Cyclone Fengal has brought major disruption to north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and nearby regions as it made landfall. Heavy showers along with strong winds have impacted normal routines, affecting road and air travel. The India Meteorological Department has retained its red alert for the third day for intense downpours in Tamil Nadu, Kariakal, and Puducherry. Moreover, a yellow alert has also been announced for heavy spells likely to occur over Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Mahe, Rayalaseema, and South Interior Karnataka.

Cyclone Fengal Update

The IMD in its weather bulletin has notified that the cyclonic term ‘’FENGAL’’ pronounced as FEINJAL was positioned over the southwest Bay of Bengal on November 30. The cyclone was 90 km south of Chennai, 50 km southeast of Mahabalipuram, 60 km east-northeast of Puducherry, and 40-km from the coast.

Rainfall Warning for Southern India

Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are expected to receive heavy precipitation on December 1. Heavy downpours at isolated places have also been observed in South Interior Karnataka and Mahe on December 2 and December 3. Likewise, Yanam, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Rayalaseema may get it from December 1 to December 2. Lakshadweep is expected to get it for the same period. Scattered downpours accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning are forecast for South Interior Karnataka, Mahe, and Kerala from December 1 to December 4.

IMD’s alert for Dense Fog

Isolated places of Uttar Pradesh might witness dense fog during late night and early morning duration till December 2.

Delhi/NCR Weather prediction

The Weather Department has projected to have clear skies in the Delhi/NCR region. Smog and mild fog are also expected to be present during morning hours on Sunday. For the evening hours, smog along with mist is likely to be there with wind speed below 4 km/h. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be around 27 degrees Celsius and 11 degrees Celsius
