The new routes to Bangkok, Dimapur, and Patna come as part of Air India Express’ ongoing expansion following the merger of AIX Connect into the carrier.
Air India Express, the low-cost carrier of the Tata Group, is set to expand its network with the launch of new flights connecting Surat and Pune to Bangkok, starting December 20, 2024. With this addition, Bangkok will become the airline’s 15th international destination, marking a significant milestone in its growth strategy.
In addition to the international expansion, the airline is also strengthening its domestic network by launching services to Dimapur (Nagaland) and Patna (Bihar).

AI Express now serving 51 cities
Air India Express will now connect 51 cities across India, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia, catering to growing demand for both international and domestic travel.
“Operations to Bangkok will commence on 20th December 2024, with direct flights connecting Surat and Pune to the vibrant capital of Thailand. Additionally, the airline strengthens its domestic network with the launch of services to Dimapur and Patna, offering daily direct connectivity between Dimapur and Guwahati, and Patna and Bengaluru and Hyderabad,” the airline said in a release on Wednesday.
AI Express expansion plan takes off
The new routes to Bangkok, Dimapur, and Patna come as part of Air India Express’ ongoing expansion following the merger of AIX Connect into the carrier. The airline aims to strengthen its presence in both the domestic and international aviation markets, especially in Southeast Asia.
Bangkok, as the 50th destination in Air India Express’ growing network, is a key addition. Aloke Singh, Managing Director of Air India Express, highlighted the airline’s strategic push into Southeast Asia.
He emphasised that the airline’s expansion plans are focused on connecting non-metro cities in India to international destinations, as well as enhancing connectivity between Indian metros, in a bid to promote economic growth and tourism.

400 flights a day, 90 planes in the sky
Currently, Air India Express operates a fleet of 90 aircraft and runs more than 400 flights daily, serving a wide range of passengers travelling for both business and leisure. The airline’s latest expansion aligns with its long-term goal of increasing its footprint in both the regional and international aviation markets.
