In another update, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange, warning of heavy to very heavy rain in six Tamil Nadu districts, including Cuddalore, Kancheepuram, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, and Mayiladuthurai from November 25 to 28. The weather body has also put a yellow alert for Chennai during this time period. A low-pressure area over the east equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining South Andaman Sea and Southeast Bay of Bengal is set to intensify into a depression in the next two days, bringing heavy rainfall to parts of Tamil Nadu, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai.
The system, which has been hovering in the region for the past few days, is expected to cause significant weather changes over the coming days. As the low-pressure area strengthens and moves towards the Tamil Nadu-Sri Lanka coasts, it will bring more widespread rainfall across the state.
