IMD Weather Update: The IMD has forecasted a gradual fall in minimum temperatures across parts of the country.
Weather Forecast Today: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued several weather warnings for the coming week, as a well-marked low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining East Equatorial Indian Ocean is expected to bring heavy rainfall and intense fog conditions to different regions of the country.
The IMD has also forecasted a gradual fall in minimum temperatures across parts of the country. Northwest India, including areas like Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi, will see no significant change in minimum temperatures for the next 48 hours, followed by a gradual drop of 2-3 degrees Celsius. This drop in temperature trend is expected to impact areas of Maharashtra as well, with a similar dip in minimum temperatures over the next few days. No significant change in minimum temperatures is anticipated for the rest of the country over the next five days.
IMD rainfall warning
The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall over Coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry from November 25-27, with isolated heavy rainfall expected on November 28. The low-pressure system, which is expected to intensify, is likely to bring significant rainfall to the region.
For Coastal Andhra Pradesh, the IMD has issued a warning for light to moderate rainfall at many places, with isolated heavy rainfall between November 27-28.
Dense fog forecast for northern states
In addition to rainfall, dense fog conditions are likely to affect several northern states, especially during the early morning hours. The IMD has issued a fog warning for Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh between November 27-29. Similarly, Himachal Pradesh is expected to experience dense fog till November 28, while Uttar Pradesh may face similar conditions between November 28-30.

Light to moderate rain likely in Odisha
IMD Bhubaneswar forecasted light to moderate rain across Odisha over the next 3-4 days, officials said on Sunday. On the same day, dense fog, reducing visibility to as low as 100 meters, was reported in Rourkela, while light fog was observed in the districts of Koraput and Bhawanipatna.
“The weather in Odisha is currently dry, with no rainfall reported. The minimum temperature in Phulbani was recorded at 10 degree celsius. Dense fog with 100-meter visibility was observed in Rourkela, while Koraput and Bhawanipatna experienced moderate fog this morning,” said Dr Sanjeev Dwivedi, a scientist with IMD Bhubaneswar.
He further stated, “There will not be significant rainfall for the next three days, until the 26th. However, light to moderate rain is expected on the 27th in Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, Jagatsinghpur, and Kendrapara districts. On the 28th, similar conditions may prevail in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, and Kendrapara. On the 29th, light to moderate rain is likely in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, and Gajapati due to the system’s impact.”
Yellow warning for dense fog issued in parts of Himachal
Since Saturday evening, light rain and snowfall have been reported in the high-altitude tribal regions and higher hills of Himachal Pradesh, while a brief storm swept through the state capital, Shimla. Elsewhere in the state, the weather remained dry. On Sunday, the local Meteorological Department issued a “yellow” warning for dense fog in the Bhakra reservoir area of Bilaspur district and the Balh valley in Mandi district, from the morning hours of November 25 to November 28. The MeT office warned that dense fog is expected in these areas late at night and early in the morning during this period.

Fresh snowfall in higher reaches of Kashmir
Fresh snowfall covered the higher reaches of Kashmir, including the popular tourist destination of Gulmarg, on Sunday, sparking hopes of precipitation in the valley’s plains. Gulmarg received moderate snowfall from Saturday evening, which continued into Sunday morning, according to officials.
Other areas such as Machil and Karnah in Kupwara district, as well as Tulail in Bandipora district, also experienced moderate snowfall. Meanwhile, the plains of Kashmir, including parts of Srinagar and Budgam districts, saw light precipitation overnight.
As a result of the snowfall in the higher altitudes, temperatures in the region dropped, while the minimum temperature, which had dipped below freezing last week, saw a noticeable rise. Srinagar recorded a low of 4.8 degrees Celsius, which is around the seasonal average for this time of year.
