The century in the second inning of the ongoing first Test has helped Jaiswal become the first Indian opener after KL Rahul to score a century in a Test match played in Australia. Rahul had scored 110 runs for India in the Sydney Test played from January 6 to 10 in 2015.
Jaiswal needed 205 balls to score his maiden Test century in Australia, and during his stay at the crease so far, the left-handed batter has hammered eight fours and three sixes.
Jaiswal added 201 runs for the first wicket with Rahul (77), and during the process, the duo became the first Indian opening pair to add 200 runs in a Test match in Australia. They broke Sunil Gavaskar and Kris Srikkanth’s record of 191 runs.
Gavaskar and Srikkanth added 191 runs for the first wicket in the first innings of the Sydney Test played from January 2 to 6 in 1986.
