Air India Express has announced a significant expansion of its services in West Bengal, increasing the number of weekly flights from Kolkata and Bagdogra to over 230 this winter season. This represents a 37% increase from the 168 weekly flights operated during the same period last year.
New Routes Connect Kolkata and Bagdogra with Key Destinations
The airline’s new winter schedule includes several key enhancements, including direct flights connecting Kolkata to Sri Vijaya Puram (Port Blair) and Indore, as well as a new direct route between Bagdogra and Chennai. The expanded services are aimed at boosting trade, tourism, and connectivity within the region.
Dr. Ankur Garg, Chief Commercial Officer of Air India Express, emphasized the airline’s commitment to the region, stating, “Our new winter schedule, featuring over 230 weekly flights from Kolkata and Bagdogra, underscores our dedication to fostering trade and tourism in the region.”

Among the highlights of the new winter schedule is the introduction of a Kolkata-Port Blair flight, set to begin next month in time for the holiday season. This addition provides more travel options for passengers heading to the popular tourist destination.
In a move to celebrate West Bengal’s cultural heritage, Air India Express will also unveil two brand-new aircraft, each showcasing intricate livery designs inspired by traditional Bengal art forms—Jamdani and Kantha. Jamdani, a handloom technique known for its delicate floral and geometric patterns, and Kantha, a quilting style using repurposed clothing, reflect the rich cultural history of the state.

“As we expand our services with a 37% increase in flights from West Bengal, Air India Express reaffirms its commitment to connecting this vibrant state with the rest of India,” Dr. Garg added.
The airline’s winter schedule has expanded by 30% overall, supported by an increasing fleet of over 90 aircraft. This winter, Air India Express will operate more than 400 daily flights, compared to 325 flights last year. The expanded network also introduces several new routes, including Chennai-Goa, Chennai-Jaipur, and Delhi-Indore, among others. Additionally, the airline will begin operations to two new destinations, Jammu and Sri Vijaya Puram (Port Blair), starting December 1, 2024.
Air India Express has also increased the frequency of flights on routes such as Bengaluru-Hyderabad and Kochi-Hyderabad, alongside international connections to Abu Dhabi, Ras al-Khaimah, and Muscat.
