During the Winter Session, the Centre is expected to introduce the Waqf (Amendment) Bill. The Bill, which was referred to a Joint Parliamentary Committee, has led to many Opposition leaders expressing their reservations on the amendment.
The Opposition members of the Waqf JPC have threatened to “disassociate” from the panel, accusing its chairperson and BJP leader Jagdambika Pal of “bulldozing the proceedings” and “stonewalling” them. The committee — tasked to scrutinise the Bill to amend the law governing Waqf boards — has witnessed stormy scenes since the first meeting on August 22.

Among the big-ticket bills likely to be tabled and/or debated or discussed might also include the provisions for the government’s ambitious ‘One Nation, One Election’ proposal.
As far as the ‘One Nation, One Election’ proposal goes, a committee led by former President Ram Nath Kovind cleared the way forward in March, submitting a report that proposed simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the first step.
Another major row likely to headline the Winter Session is the ongoing diplomatic row between India and Canada.
In the last Parliament session, the Monsoon Session, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget and MPs discussed various issues, including the landslides in Wayanad in Kerala.
