Diwali 2024 bank holidays: Are banks closed on October 31 or November 1 for Diwali? Check full state-wise bank holiday list here

Given the diversity of Indian traditions and customs, bank holidays during Diwali (Deepawali) can differ from state to state. Knowing when banks will be closed on Diwali in 2024 can help people, companies, and tourists make better financial, transactional, and travel plans. As bank holidays can differ depending on the state and some holidays such as Karnataka Rajyotsava and Kut festival are state specific.

Diwali, also called Deepavali is the Hindu festival of lights, with variations celebrated in other Indian religions. It symbolises the spiritual “victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance” The celebrations generally last five or six days. During the festival, the celebrants illuminate their homes, temples and workspaces with diyas (oil lamps), candles and lanterns.

  • Diwali bank holiday on October 31(Thursday)
  • Banks in Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Puducherry, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal will be closed on October 31.

Banks are not closed in Tripura, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Manipur, Jammu, Kashmir, Meghalaya.

  • Diwali bank holiday on November 1 (Friday)

On the occasion of Deepavali, Kut Festival, and Kannada Rajyotsava banks will remain closed in Tripura, Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Sikkim, and Manipur.

  • Diwali bank holiday on November 2 (Saturday)

Diwali (Bali Pratipada)/Balipadyami/Laxmi Puja (Deepawali)/Govardhan Pooja/Vikram Samvant New Year Day banks will be closed in Gujrat, Maharashta, Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh.

  • Long holiday for these states for 4 days

Banks will be closed for four consecutive days of October 31, November 1, November 2 followed by Sunday on November 3. Banks will be closed in Karnataka, Maharashtra for 4 consecutive days.

  • Long holiday in these states for 3 days

Banks will be closed for three consecutive days of November 1, November 2 followed by Sunday on November 3. Banks will be closed in Uttarakhand, Sikkim.
