Authorities said that obstructions along either side of Khajuri Chowk had led to a narrowing of the road, affecting the daily high volume of traffic and impeding pedestrian movement.
Delhi Traffic police, in coordination with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), conducted a major anti-encroachment drive at Khajuri Chowk on Saturday, aiming to ease traffic congestion at one of Trans-Yamuna’s busiest intersections.

The drive, held on October 26 near Signature Bridge, targeted illegal vendors, hawkers, and unauthorised vehicles that had occupied road space, significantly reducing access for both pedestrians and vehicles. “Appropriate legal action was taken against violators/offenders and most encroachments were removed,” the police said in a statement, as quoted by ANI.
A total of 42 challans/fines were issued to violators under applicable laws, with a significant amount of unauthorised goods seized by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), the police said.

Khajuri Chowk, near the Signature Bridge, is among the busiest intersections in Delhi’s Trans-Yamuna area, with high footfall and a large volume of vehicles each day.
This intersection lies within the jurisdiction of the Khajuri Traffic Circle, which sees heavy commuter traffic daily. During a recent inspection, police observed that both sides of the road were cluttered with illegal vendors, hawkers, and unauthorised parking, severely restricting road space and causing congestion.

The obstructions had narrowed the road, making it difficult for pedestrians and commuters to move freely, police noted, resulting in considerable traffic disruption.
The anti-encroachment drive is now being carried out regularly, and as a result, one of Delhi’s most congested points has been cleared, ensuring smoother and safer movement for all, the police added.
