Ahead of Diwali, the Rajasthan government has issued new guidelines for those wishing to light fireworks, with specific timings and restrictions set for Diwali, New Year, and Christmas celebrations.
This year, firecrackers are permitted only within the designated timeframe on Diwali night. Residents in Rajasthan’s districts that fall under the National Capital Region (NCR) will be permitted a two-hour window to light fireworks on Diwali, from 8 pm to 10 pm.
The two districts of Rajasthan that are part of the National Capital Region (NCR) are Alwar and Bharatpur.
The Rajasthan government, through the Department of Environment and Climate Change, has issued these orders applicable in Alwar and Bharatpur districts, where only green fireworks are allowed.
These guidelines also specify areas where fireworks are prohibited. As per the order, firecrackers are banned within a hundred metres of the silent zone: hospitals, nursing homes, government and private medical centres, schools, colleges, courts, and religious places.

These restrictions will apply not only during the festival of Diwali but also on Christmas and New Year’s Eve. The use of crackers on these two occasions will be permitted only from 11:55 pm to 12:30 am. Similarly, only green firecrackers will be allowed at weddings, and the sale of banned fireworks is prohibited.
All police stations across Rajasthan are instructed to ensure compliance with these orders.
Additionally, school and college officials are expected to educate students about the environmental and safety hazards associated with fireworks, promoting awareness about the responsible use of firecrackers.

Meanwhile, to curb rising pollution levels and worsening air quality, northern Indian states, including Delhi, Gurugram in the NCR, and Punjab, home to the Golden Temple, have implemented restrictions on firecrackers during the Diwali festivities. In Gurugram, Haryana, only green crackers are permitted on Diwali night, while Punjab has allocated a two-hour window from 8 pm to 10 pm. Delhi, meanwhile, has enforced a complete ban on the sale of crackers.
