Amul issues warning against fake ghee sales ahead of Diwali: Tip to identify real Amul ghee

With Diwali just around the corner, demand for ghee skyrockets as families gear up to prepare traditional sweets and dishes. But in an unfortunate twist, this has also seen the alarming growth of adulterated ghee in the marketplace, especially for popular brands like Amul. This is why Amul has recently issued a public advisory warning consumers against the sale of counterfeit Amul ghee, especially in one-litre refill packs that the company has not produced for the last three years.

Fake ghee sold under Amul’s name

The dairy major said that some unscrupulous sellers are going ahead by circulating fake ghee in the market under the name of Amul to sell diluted products. It said this fake product is being sold mainly in one-litre refill packs, a format Amul stopped manufacturing three years ago. This will mislead consumers into buying such ghee that fails to meet the quality parameters and can also be hazardous to one’s health.

Duplication-proof packaging

With increasing spurious products, Amul has brought duplication-proof carton packs that aid consumers in knowing the real ghee from the fake. New packaging is done at the ISO-certified dairies of Amul with the latest aseptic filling technology to give the best quality standards. Consumers need to check the packaging while buying the ghee whether it is an original one of Amul or not.

How to check the original Amul ghee

To further the cause of customers in identifying actual products, Amul asks consumers to be cautious of the shopping process during the festival season. “If any customer has suspicion or doubt about the genuine nature of ghee received, they can call Amul’s toll-free number 1800 258 3333 for verification,” explained the statement.

Recent controversy over Tirupati Laddu

Another controversy Amul was involved with was TTD laddus. Several social media posts were there claiming that Amul ghee was being used in the making of the sacred laddus without a word of truth behind it. Amul responded fast by stating it has never supplied ghee to TTD, which separates itself from the allegations.

The controversy erupted when Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu blamed the previous state government for adding low-quality ingredients, even animal fat, in making laddus. Union Health Minister JP Nadda and Food Minister Prahlad Joshi had called for an inquiry. But Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has dismissed it as a political move.
