Babita Phogat on ‘Dangal’ compensation:Phogat family received only ₹1 Crore from ₹2,000 Crore of the Aamir Khan’s film’s earnings

Babita Phogat recently made a startling revelation regarding the money her family collectively collected from the blockbuster film ‘Dangal’, the movie inspired from the inspiring true story of the Phogat family. The Nitesh Tiwari-directed film had Aamir Khan in it and went on to gross about Rs 2,000 crore worldwide. But what Babita has revealed now is that her family received only as much as Rs 1 crore as compensation for their story.

In an interview with News 24, Babita’s response left the anchor in shock as well. Once she had reconfirmed the amount, she proceeded, “Out of Rs 2,000 crore earned from Dangal, the Phogat family got only Rs 1 crore? ” Babita nodded and merely said yes. Babita was pitifully soft about the entire issue.

This is what she had learned from her father, that is, exactly what she said: ”Nahi, papa ne ek cheez kahi thi ki logo ka pyar aur samman chahiye”

“Dangal” was released on 23 December 2016,it was a true story about former wrestler Mahavir Phogat and his two daughters, Geeta and Babita, into champion athletes. Many of these themes had dialogues that hit home with audiences all over the globe, as they spoke about determination, family, and especially women’s empowerment in the realm of sports.

Babita Phogat, too, has had an illustrious wrestling career. She won the silver medal for the Commonwealth Games in 2010 and then took the gold for the 2012 Commonwealth Games, establishing herself deeply in her league as one of the best wrestlers out there. The same year, she also fetched a bronze medal at the World Wrestling Championship to cement her name further into the sport. In 2016, Babita represented India at the Rio Olympics, though she could not end up winning it. After a stellar career in wrestling with excellent public service, Babita transitioned to politics in 2019 and continues further service in empowering the masses. Their story inspires many; perseverance and the pursuit of dreams will be just as tough and extraordinary as the unexpected challenges thrown in their path. Once again, Babita is modest and grateful about the love and respect showered upon her by her community and fans.
