The Guwahati-New Jalpaiguri Special and Rangiya-Silchar-Rangiya Express were cancelled for Thursday, along with their corresponding services on Friday.
Following the derailment of eight coaches of the Agartala-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express at Dibalong station in Assam’s Dima Hasao district on Thursday (October 17) afternoon, the Northeast Frontier (NF) Railway has announced multiple train cancellations and schedule changes.
The Guwahati-New Jalpaiguri Special and Rangiya-Silchar-Rangiya Express were cancelled for Thursday, along with their corresponding services on Friday.
Additionally, the Agartala-Firozpur Cantt Express was short-terminated at Badarpur, the Sabroom-Sealdah Kanchanjunga Express at Maibong, and the Dullabcherra-Guwahati Express at New Haflong.
The Guwahati-New Jalpaiguri Special and Agartala-Guwahati Summer Special have also been cancelled for Thursday, while the New Jalpaiguri-Guwahati Special, Guwahati-Agartala Summer Special, Kamakhya-Anand Vihar Terminal Special, and Silchar-Guwahati Silchar Express are cancelled on Friday, according to an NF Railway bulletin.
Other schedule adjustments include the rescheduling of the Silchar-Thiruvananthapuram Express, originally set to depart on Thursday, to leave at 6 a.m. on Friday.
The SMVT Bengaluru-Agartala Humsafar Express, which departed on October 15, will be regulated accordingly, the bulletin added.

Agartala-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express derailment
Eight coaches, including the power car and engine, of the Agartala-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express derailed at Dibalong station in Assam’s Dima Hasao district on Thursday afternoon. Fortunately, no fatalities or major injuries were reported, and all passengers are safe, according to Northeast Frontier Railway officials.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed on X that relief efforts are underway, with a relief train dispatched from Lumding along with senior officers to supervise rescue and restoration.
The derailment occurred at 3:55 p.m., and the cause is under investigation. Passengers will be transferred to a separate rake to continue their journey, but restoration efforts are expected to take time due to the difficult terrain. Train operations on the Lumding-Badarpur single-line hill section have been suspended, and helpline numbers have been set up for assistance.
