MUMBAI: A malfunction in a 900 mm valve of the Vaitarna Water Pipeline at Tarali, Thane district, will lead to a 5% to 10% water cut across the entire Mumbai region on October 17-18.
The pipeline supplies water from the Vaitarna Dam, one of the city’s primary sources.
The breakdown has reduced the flow to the Bhandup Water Treatment Plant, which is responsible for supplying water to Mumbai City and its suburbs. To facilitate repairs, the water conveyance system will be partially shut down.
“Urgent repairs are underway, requiring a temporary shutdown. Consequently, a 5% to 10% reduction in water supply to the Bhandup Water Treatment Plant, which serves the BMC area, will be enforced,” the BMC said in a statement.

The repair work is expected to take approximately 48 hours. Citizens are advised to store sufficient water and use it sparingly during this period.
