“Put your attitude in your pocket”

In his now-viral list of rules, a cab driver requested that passengers refrain from displaying any “attitude” during their ride. Rule number four stated: “Put your attitude in your pocket. Please don’t show it to us, as you’re not giving us extra money.”

The driver had additional requests, including asking passengers to close the door gently, speak politely, and avoid using the term “bhaiya” when addressing him. His final rule, emphasised in red, advised passengers against requesting him to speed up to reach their destination on time: “Don’t say to drive fast to be on time.”

The list was shared on Reddit by someone who wrote, “I booked a cab, and the driver mentioned some guidelines. What do you think of these rules?”

The list sparked a divisive debate on the CarsIndia subreddit. While some users agreed that setting boundaries is reasonable, others questioned the driver’s aversion to being called “bhaiya.”

“Most points are fair, but what’s the issue with being called ‘bhaiya’?” asked one Redditor.

“As long as the driver is respectful, I see nothing wrong with the guidelines. The ‘bhaiya’ part may seem odd, but there’s nothing wrong with using regional terms,” replied another user, sharing that he calls drivers “Anna” in the South.

Several users emphasised that respect should be mutual. “If it’s about maintaining mutual respect, then it’s perfectly fine. Basic manners like closing the door softly and not distracting the driver are essential,” one person commented. However, others were less impressed, with one Redditor saying, “The beginning made sense, but it ended with a hint of hypothetical ego and a totalitarian attitude!”
