Samsung launches Galaxy A16 5G, its first mid-range phone with 6 years of software support

Samsung has introduced the Galaxy A16, its latest mid-range smartphone offering six years of Android version updates and security patches. This marks the first time in the industry that a phone in this price range has offered such extensive software support, although Samsung guarantees up to seven years of software support for its high-end Galaxy S and Galaxy Z devices. The Galaxy A16 5G represents a significant improvement over the Galaxy A15 5G, featuring noticeable changes such as a larger AMOLED display.

Samsung Galaxy A16 5G price

The new Galaxy A16 5G costs EUR 249, which is approximately Rs 23,000. However, it is currently listed on the Samsung France website, hinting at its availability in France – at least initially. The company has not said anything about whether the phone will be available outside of France, but rumours suggest an imminent launch in India.

Samsung Galaxy A16 5G specifications

The Galaxy A6 5G will receive new Android version upgrades and security patches until October 2030. That is more than any existing smartphone at this price offers, but whether this proposition can entice customers is something only time will tell. And even otherwise, the Galaxy A16 5G brings notable improvements, including a larger 6.7-inch full-HD+ Super AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate. It is powered by Samsung’s Exynos 1330 processor, but its Indian and Thai variants may use MediaTek Dimensity 6300. The smartphone has 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, along with support for a microSD card of up to 1.5TB.

Based on Android 14-based OneUI 6.1, the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G has a 50MP main, a 5MP ultrawide, and a 2MP macro camera on the back. Its selfie camera features a 13MP sensor, housed inside a waterdrop notch on the display. The smartphone packs a 5000mAh battery that supports 25W charging and has an IP54 rating for water and dust resistance. It also has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.
