Chennai is all set to host a grand air show at Marina Beach. The show is being hosted by Indian Air Force (IAF) on Sunday, 6 October 2024. The show will begin at 11AM in the morning for which a traffic advisory has been issued. There are chances of the large gathering due to which the Chennai Traffic Police have issued a travel advisory requesting people to plan their travel to ensure smooth access to the event.

The advisory also suggests using the Metro and Chennai Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) services to avoid traffic congestion and ensure convenient travel to the venue. To secure a good spot and fully experience the pre-show excitement, attendees are encouraged to arrive early.
This year’s air show theme is “Bhartiya Vayu Sena – Saksham, Sashakt, Atmanirbhar,” which translates to “Potent, Powerful, and Self-Reliant.” The theme underscores the strength and self-reliance of the IAF.

As per Group Captain Supandeep Singh, around 10-12 lakh people are expected to attend this grand aerial display, which is the first such event in Chennai in over two decades. The show will feature a flypast of 22 different types of aircraft in honor of the IAF’s 92nd anniversary. Spectators can enjoy the display from beaches stretching from Kovalam to Marina Beach.
The main aerobatic performances, including displays by the Tejas, Sukhoi Su-30MKI, and the Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team, will be centered around Marina Beach. Air Officer Commander Rathish Kumar VM stated that the IAF will showcase its aerial prowess with the participation of Rafale, Sukhoi, and Tejas jets.

Additionally, the elite Akash Ganga skydiving team will thrill the audience with their jumps from considerable heights. The Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team will mesmerize spectators with their precision formations and synchronized maneuvers, while the Sarang Helicopter Display Team will perform their signature aerial choreography.
This air show is set to be a spectacular event for aviation enthusiasts, as they witness an impressive lineup of aircraft and aerobatic performances after many years.
