Kerala News: FlixBus, the well-known European intercity bus service, is set to expand its operations in Kerala as part of its strategy to strengthen its presence in South India. This announcement comes shortly after the company launched services in Bengaluru, where a promotional fare of just Rs 99 gained considerable attention on social media.

FlixBus plans to commence services in Kerala later this year, connecting Bangalore to Kochi and Alappuzha. The initial rollout will feature four buses operating on two routes, Bengaluru-Kochi and Bengaluru-Alappuzha, with one departure in each direction. This initiative aims to provide residents with a new and affordable travel option.

The Mathrubhumi.com report quoted Surya Khurana, Managing Director of FlixBus India as stating that the company will focus on major cities, including Kochi, Alappuzha, Thrissur and Palakkad. While FlixBus is currently in discussions with local bus operators to establish partnerships, no formal agreements have been finalised yet. Khurana also stated that while there are no specific promotional fares planned for the launch, competitive pricing will be a priority to attract passengers.

In Bengaluru, FlixBus recently unveiled six new routes connecting 33 cities across South India, marking a significant milestone in its expansion efforts. With these additions, FlixBus now serves 101 cities nationwide with over 200 routes. The inaugural routes included connections from Bengaluru to Chennai, Hyderabad and Coimbatore, further enhancing intercity travel options in the region.
All buses used in South India comply with BS6 emission standards, greatly reducing pollution. They are also equipped with advanced safety features like ABS, ESC and two-point seat belts, ensuring a comfortable and safe journey for passengers.
