The billionaire often makes headlines on the social media platforms. Earlier in May 2024, the business tycoon made headlines once again when AIRCEL’s founder, Chinnakannan Sivasankaran, recounted Ratan Tata’s near-death experience while flying on an Air India flight.

During a chat with Raj Shamani on his podcast Figuring Out With Raj Shamani, AIRCEL founder Chinnakannan Sivasankaran revealed a fascinating story about Ratan Tata. He recounted a memorable incident from the past when both he and Ratan Tata were on the same flight, and an alarming event unfolded.

C. Sivasankaran shared that during the flight he and Ratan Tata were on, one of the engines failed, creating a serious situation. He recalled that Ratan Tata’s secretary had even warned them about the possibility of a plane crash.  Reflecting on the incident, Sivasankaran said in the podcast,”I and Tata were on a flight from Singapore to Seychelles when we learned that one of the plane’s engines had failed. A secretary of Tata’s said that if the other engine also failed, the plane could crash within 30 minutes.”

Later in the interview, Aircel founder Chinnakannan Sivasankaran admitted that the incident was a frightening and near-death experience for him. However, when asked about Ratan Tata’s reaction, Sivasankaran shared that the billionaire remained calm and composed throughout the ordeal.

Aircel founder Sivasankaran revealed that during the harrowing experience, he even sent an email to his son, sharing his Gmail password, feeling that death was imminent. Meanwhile, Ratan Tata remained composed, calmly stating, ‘Let the pilots do their job’. For those who are unaware, Ratan Tata is a certified pilot. He was the first Indian civilian to fly a F-16 Falcon fighter jet.

C. Sivasankaran revealed that Ratan Tata remained unfazed during the incident, advising everyone to stay calm. Recalling their conversation, Sivasankaran shared that Tata showed no signs of worry and reassured those around him to keep their composure. “Let the pilots do their job. One minute before landing, I saw whole airport was lighted up, ambulances and firefighters were standing. I was told these arrangements were made to protect the plane from being consumed by flames once it lands in the airport,” he stated.
