Mumbai on high ALERT over possible terror threat, DCPs directed to ramp up security, religious places in radar

Mumbai police have ramped up security across crowded areas following intelligence reports from central agencies about a potential terror threat. Heightened security measures are being implemented at religious sites and busy public spaces across the city. Officers have been directed to conduct mock drills as a precautionary step to ensure readiness.

Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) are overseeing security in their respective zones, while temples have been advised to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity. On Friday, a mock drill was conducted at Crawford Market, which houses two popular religious sites, as part of these measures.

“We have been asked by Mumbai Police to increase the security of the temple. We have been asked to pay attention to all the security arrangements,” Sada Sarvankar, the chairman of the Siddhivinayak temple trust, told NDTV.

Officials have clarified that the increased security is part of routine preparations for the festive season, as Mumbai is preparing for major events like Durga Puja, Dussehra, and Diwali. The upcoming Maharashtra state assembly elections in November also contribute to the heightened vigilance.
