Weather today: IMD issues red alert for West Bengal and Odisha, heavy rains predicted in THESE states

The IMD has issued a nowcast warning due to a developing ‘depression.’ A ‘well-marked low-pressure area’ has been observed over northwest Uttar Pradesh, resulting in heavy rainfall alerts for Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for West Bengal and Odisha, warning of heavy downpours on September 14. Jharkhand is also under an orange alert as the states brace for intense weather conditions. The IMD has forecasted widespread rain and the possibility of flash floods in several regions.

Weather Warnings for Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh

The IMD has issued a nowcast warning due to a developing ‘depression.’ A ‘well-marked low-pressure area’ has been observed over northwest Uttar Pradesh, resulting in heavy rainfall alerts for Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.

In Uttarakhand, heavy rainfall is expected on September 14, with light to moderate rain across most areas. The IMD has warned of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall at isolated locations, raising concerns about possible flooding.

Similarly, Himachal Pradesh is facing flash flood warnings, particularly in Shimla and Sirmour districts. The IMD noted the risk of surface runoff and inundation in fully saturated soils and low-lying areas.

Forecast for Uttar Pradesh and Haryana

Uttar Pradesh is likely to experience light to moderate rainfall at most locations, with heavy rainfall predicted at isolated spots on September 14.

In Haryana, the IMD forecasts light to moderate rainfall at isolated places, with chances of heavy rainfall in certain areas.

Rainfall Predictions for Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh

According to the IMD, East Madhya Pradesh is expected to receive very heavy rainfall on September 17, while Chhattisgarh will see isolated heavy rain between September 14 and 17. West Madhya Pradesh is predicted to face similar conditions on September 18 and 19.

Yellow Alert in Delhi

Delhi’s Regional Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow alert, forecasting cloudy skies with light rainfall and possible thundershowers on September 14. The current wet spell is expected to subside after this date, with another round of rainfall likely starting September 18. The maximum temperature in the national capital is predicted to be around 32°C, while the minimum will hover around 21°C on Saturday.

With severe weather predicted across several states, authorities and residents have been urged to remain vigilant for potential floods and disruptions.
