Heavy Rain In Parts Of Delhi-NCR, Many Areas Waterlogged; Orange Alert Issued

Delhi woke to rain on Friday after an overnight downpour across the national capital and adjoining areas. The weather department has issued an ‘orange’ alert in the city.

Rain lashed Delhi and its adjoining areas on Friday morning, leaving several areas waterlogged. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an ‘orange’ alert in the national capital, indicating a “be prepared” mode.

According to the weather department, extremely bad weather is on the forecast in Delhi on Friday.

The alert also warns of potential disruptions to transport, including rail, road and air, with power outages also likely.

Waterlogging was witnessed on the Main Outer Ring Road in the carriageway from Bhera Enclave Roundabout towards Peeragarhi.

In an X post, the Delhi Police wrote, “Traffic Alert Traffic is affected on Main Outer Ring Road in the carriageway from Bhera Enclave Roundabout towards Peeragarhi due to water logging and overflow of sewer water near Nagin Lake Apptt, Peeragarhi. Kindly plan your journey accordingly.”

The ITO in New Delhi was also waterlogged after overnight rain in the national capital.

A video shared by news agency IANS also showed severe waterlogging in the Sangam Vihar area.

The weather department said Friday is expected to be generally cloudy with moderate rain.

The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 31 degrees Celsius and 21 degrees Celsius, respectively.

On Thursday, the IMD warned of very heavy rain in parts of Delhi, Haryana and Chandigarh over the weekend. It also said a depression, that originated over central India is expected to bring heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand, Delhi, parts of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh over the next three days.

The maximum temperature on Thursday in Delhi-NCR settled at 27.9 degrees Celsius, six notches below normal, the weather department stated.

On Wednesday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 32.6 degrees Celsius.

WEEKLY WEATHER FORECAST IN DELHI

According to the weather department, Delhi will remain generally cloudy and will receive moderate rain on September 13.

On September 14, the national capital will receive light rain or drizzle.

A partly cloudy sky will continue to prevail over Delhi on September 15, 16 and 17, while there is a possibility of rain or thunderstorms on September 18.

WEATHER IN OTHER STATES

The IMD on Friday said a depression was seen over central Uttar Pradesh, at 5.30 am today. It said a depression was also seen over the northwest Uttar Pradesh and neighbourhood, and that it was likely to move north-northwestwards.

Officials told news agency PTI that 12 people lost their lives in rain-related incidents across Uttar Pradesh in the last 24 hours.

The IMD has issued warnings of very heavy rain, flash floods and other rain-related incidents in over a dozen districts in Awadh and Rohilkhand region of the state.

It also said Uttar Pradesh recorded an average of 28.6 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours.

In Rajasthan, four people, including two children, died in rain-related incidents in Barmer and Dholpur districts as downpours in Rajasthan led to waterlogging in low-lying areas, officials told PTI.

Urmila Sagar Dam located on Dholpur Bari road has also overflowed and National Highway 11B connecting Dholpur to Karauli has been closed for traffic, they said.

The IMD said Uttarakhand is likely to experience light to moderate rainfall from September 12 to 14, with heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in isolated areas.

Haryana is expected to see light to moderate rain, with heavy rainfall at times between September 12 and 15.

In Madhya Pradesh, heavy rainfall is expected on September 12, followed by moderate to heavy rain over the next few days.
