Air India Express (AIX) is set to merge with another Tata Group subsidiary, Air India Connect, in October, as revealed in an internal communication on Friday. The merger of AIX Connect with Air India Express is scheduled for October 1, with a further integration of Air India and Vistara planned for November 12.
In a significant leadership transition, Hamish Maxwell will step in as the new Chief Operating Officer (COO) for the unified entity. Maxwell, currently the Senior Vice President for flight operations at Vistara, will replace Pushpinder Singh, whose tenure with AIX concludes on October 31. Singh will return to the parent company, Air India.

Aloke Singh, Managing Director of Air India Express, highlighted the importance of these mergers and Maxwell’s new role. “As we approach these key milestones, I am pleased to announce the leadership transition. Maxwell brings a wealth of experience and expertise that will guide AIX through its next phases of growth and transformation,” Singh said in the communication.
Under Singh’s leadership, AIX has expanded significantly, increasing its fleet by over 30 aircraft, boosting capacity by approximately 40 percent, and growing its flight network to 46 stations within a year. Singh praised Maxwell’s contributions at Vistara, noting his role in implementing global best practices and his extensive experience, including previous management roles at Singapore Airlines.

Maxwell’s appointment is expected to strengthen the unified entity’s operations and drive future growth, following a period of rapid expansion and integration under Singh’s leadership.
