Stock Market Holidays In September 2024: BSE, NSE To Remain Shut For Nine Days; Check Details

In September, the stock market will remain closed for nine days. These nine days include four Saturdays and five Sundays, which are standard non-trading days for the market. According to the National Stock Exchange (NSE) website, there are no holidays on weekdays during September.

In September 2023, there was an additional stock market holiday that fell on a weekday. This holiday was observed in celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi. However, in 2024, Ganesh Chaturthi falls on a weekend, so there will be no weekday holidays affecting the stock market this year. The NSE and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) generally remain open nearly every day of the year except for the listed holidays.

List Of Stock Market Holidays For Remaining 2024:

  1. Gandhi Jayanti: The stock market will be closed on October 2, 2024, in observance of Gandhi Jayanti.
  2. Diwali (Laxmi Pujan): The stock market will hold a special trading session on November 1, 2024, to celebrate Diwali and Laxmi Pujan. This session, known as Muhurat trading, marks the auspicious occasion of the festival.
  3. Gurunanak Jayanti: The market will be closed on November 15, 2024, in honour of Gurunanak Jayanti.
  4. Christmas: The stock market will remain shut on December 25, 2024, to celebrate Christmas.

Meanwhile, in the previous trading session on Friday, the two major equity benchmark indices, the Sensex and Nifty, continued their upward trajectory for the ninth consecutive session, reaching new all-time highs. This rally was supported by strong global market signals and increased foreign fund inflows. The BSE Sensex rose by 231 points, closing at a record high of 82,366. It surged by 502 points during the trading day, reaching an intra-day peak of 82,637. Similarly, the NSE ended at a new all-time high of 25,235, up by 84 points. It also climbed 116 points during the session to achieve an intra-day record peak of 25,268.
