Last chance to update Aadhaar details for free! UIDAI set to change certain rules from THIS date

The current deadline of September 14 was extended by three months on June 14 this year. Before this, the UIDAI extended the deadlines on March 14 this year and December 15 last year to update Aadhaar details for free.

The deadline to update Aadhaar details for free will end on September 14. Previously, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) — which is mandated to issue the 12-digit Aadhaar — extended the deadline multiple times, and it remains to be seen if another extension will be granted.

The current deadline of September 14 was extended by three months on June 14 this year. Before this, the UIDAI extended the deadlines on March 14 this year and December 15 last year to update Aadhaar details for free.

What Aadhaar details can be updated online

Users are allowed to update their address online by submitting Proof of Identity and Proof of Address documents. No fee is required if the address has not been updated in the last 10 years. Remember, you must have the same mobile number linked to your Aadhaar to receive OTPs for online logins and address updating.

Aadhaar cardholders should note that they need to visit UIDAI-authorized centers to update other details such as name, mobile number, photo, etc.

How to update Aadhaar details online – Follow these steps:

  • Visit the Aadhaar Self-Service Portal on the UIDAI website.
  • Log in using your Aadhaar number, Captcha, and the One Time Password (OTP) received on your phone.
  • Go to the Document Update section and review your existing details for accuracy.
  • Choose the appropriate document type from the drop-down list and upload scanned copies of the original documents for verification.
  • Make a note of the service request number to track the progress of your details update process.

Is it mandatory to update Aadhaar details after 10 years?

The UIDAI recommends that every user should update his or her Aadhaar card details after 10 years so that their address and other details remain updated and they don’t face any difficulties in availing any government schemes. However, it is mandatory to update Aadhaar card after 10 years.

What happens if you don’t update your Aadhaar details?

If you don’t update your Aadhaar, you may lose some benefits linked to certain government schemes as they require up-to-date information of beneficiaries. Besides, there might be a problem in furnishing Aadhaar as a proof of address if details are not updated. So, it is advisable that users must keep their Aadhaar updated so that they can use it for various purposes without any problem.
