8th Pay Commission: Here’s What To Expect

Gopal Mishra has reportedly called on the Centre to prioritize the formation of the 8th Pay Commission, highlighting that over 1 crore government employees and pensioners are eagerly awaiting a revision in their salaries and pensions.

“The post-Covid-19 inflation is higher than pre-Covid-19 levels. If we compare the retail prices of essential commodities and goods which are required for daily life, from 2016 to 2023, they have increased by over 80 per cent as per the local market, but we were provided only around 46 per cent Dearness Allowance (DA), as of July 1, 2023. Hence, there is a gap between the actual price rise and DA provided to the employees and pensioners.” Mishra said in the proposal.

Mishra suggested that instead of merely increasing the Dearness Allowance (DA), the government should regularly review the pay matrix of employees. At present, pay commissions are established once every 10 years to update the pay matrix, the report said.
