Team India is expected to take part in an open bus road show from the iconic Nariman Point to the Wankhede Stadium
The Men in Blue are in for a long day on Thursday following their arrival in India after pulling off a thrilling seven-run win over South Africa in the T20 World Cup final on June 29 in Barbados. The T20 World Cup-winning Indian cricket team is scheduled to take part in an open bus road show followed by a felicitation ceremony in Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday evening.
The Indian team is expected to reach New Delhi earlier in the morning at around 6 am in the national capital.
Upon their arrival in New Delhi, Rohit Sharma and his men will be meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi at 11 am. Soon after the meeting with the Prime Minister, the team will depart for Mumbai, where the felicitation ceremony and open roadshow is organised.
“There will be a road show from Nariman Point in an open bus and later we will honour and felicitate the players with the prize money of Rs 125 crore as announced,” BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla told news agency PTI.
A felicitation event at the Wankhede is also planned for the members of the Indian team.
A similar roadshow was held on the path 14 years ago when MS Dhoni’s team had beaten arch-rivals Pakistan in the final of the inaugural 2007 World T20 in South Africa. However, that year, the parade followed a longer route (30 km), and fans got a chance to be part of the celebration from Mumbai airport to Wankhede Stadium.
ROUTES TO AVOID
While final plans are being drawn up by the local administration and cricket authorities, it is expected that the team will take part in an open bus road show from the iconic Nariman Point to the Wankhede Stadium which also hosts the headquarters of the BCCI.
Since the parade will start from Nariman Point and will end at Wankhede, Marine Drive is likely to witness massive traffic congestion. In addition to this, the Churchgate area might also see increased vehicular queueing.

FANS CALLED TO JOIN VICTORY PARADE
The Indian team will participate in the parade from 5 pm IST on Thursday. The open bus parade celebration is expected to last for two hours.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma took to X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday (July 3) to invite Indian fans to become part of the memorable celebration. He tweeted, “We want to enjoy this special moment with all of you. So let’s celebrate this win with a victory parade at Marine Drive & Wankhede on July 4th from 5:00pm onwards. It’s coming home.
Tweeting about the same, BCCI secretary Jay Shah wrote, “Join us for the Victory Parade honouring Team India’s World Cup win! Head to Marine Drive and Wankhede Stadium on July 4th from 5:00 pm onwards to celebrate with us! Save the date! ”

TEAM INDIA ARRIVING TOMORROW
The departure of the Indian squad was delayed due to Hurricane Beryl. However, the team, its support staff, the players’ families, some board officials and travelling Indian media finally managed to leave Barbados in the charter flight arranged by the BCCI early on Wednesday morning (4:50 am local time).
Indian captain Rohit Sharma posed with the trophy along with Suryakumar Yadav and shared the picture on Instagram before leaving the Caribbean shores. “Coming home,” posted India on Instagram.
The Boeing 777, which took off from New Jersey, USA on July 2, landed in Barbados around 2 am local time and the airport staff here stated that they had not seen a bigger plane land at the Grantley Adams International airport, which resumed its operations on Tuesday.
