Hair problems, much like skin issues, become more prevalent during the monsoon season. Various factors contribute to increased hair fall, including the use of hair styling tools like curlers or straighteners without heat protectant spray, deficiencies in nutrients such as vitamin B12, biotin, and folate, artificial hair treatments, poor diet and hormonal imbalances. The heightened moisture and humidity in the air during monsoon can dry out the scalp, stripping it of moisture and essential oils. The humid weather also causes excessive sweating, which clogs hair follicles and leads to scalp irritation and weakened hair roots. Additionally, getting hair wet in the rain can make it fragile and brittle if not properly dried. Wet hair is more susceptible to damage, making it prone to breakage and tangling.

Tips to Prevent Hair Fall in Monsoon

  •  Do not comb on wet hair: Combing wet hair is a huge no-no, as your hair strands are much weaker and can get damaged and break, contributing to hair fall. Instead, let your hair naturally get dry, and then gently try combing your hair for better results. It is advised to start detangling your hair from the end and then shift towards the root to minimize damage and less hair breakage.
  •  Wash your hair often: During the monsoon season, the air is combined with various germs, bacteria, viruses, and dust particles that can reside on your scalp when going outdoors. It is important to wash hair at least thrice a week during monsoon season, to keep the dirt, excess oil, and germs off your hair.
  • Avoid tight hairstyles: Tight ponytails or braids can put too much strain on your hair which can easily break your hair and cause tangling of the hair. It can also result in thinning of the hair and even bald patches in certain situations. Try hairstyles that are easy and scalp-friendly to prevent hair loss and other hair problems.
  • Avoid Frequent Hair Treatments: Reduce the use of heat-styling tools like blow dryers, straighteners, and curling irons, as they can weaken hair. Avoid chemical treatments such as colouring, perming or straightening during the monsoon, as hair is more vulnerable to damage.
  • Stay Stress-Free: Practice stress-relief techniques such as yoga, meditation or deep-breathing exercises, as stress can lead to hair fall.

Remember to be consistent with your hair care routine and give your hair the extra care it needs during the time.
