Google Rolls Out Lookup Feature On Pixel Phones To Identify Unknown Callers: How It Works

Google has released a new Pixel Drop update for its Pixel devices this week that also brings this useful feature that can save you from spam callers.

Google is rolling out a new “Lookup” feature in its phone app for high-end Pixel devices, allowing users to identify unsaved numbers in their call logs without relying on third-party apps. This feature was introduced as part of the June Pixel Feature Drop and was initially launched for Pixel users in Japan, as reported by Gadgets360.

According to a report in 9to5Google, the feature is now available on most Pixel devices and is included in the Google Phone App version 132, currently in Beta. However, Google has not specified when this feature will be available to all Pixel users globally.

HOW TO USE LOOKUP FEATURE ON PIXEL PHONES

– Open the Phone app on your Pixel device.

– Go to the Recents tab and tap on an unknown number from your call log.

– In addition to the usual options like Add to Contact, Message, and History tabs, you will now see a new “Lookup” icon.

– Tap on the Lookup icon.

– Your device will automatically initiate a search on the internet to identify the selected unidentified caller.

Earlier, users needed to install a third-party application like Truecaller to identify unknown callers. This new feature by the tech giant makes it much easier and time-saving.

According to reports, the new Lookup feature is primarily intended for phone numbers associated with businesses that are publicly listed on the internet, rather than personal numbers that are less likely to be found in public databases.

We are eager to see if Google plans to extend this feature to other Android smartphones besides Pixel devices. The feature is currently rolling out to Pixel 6 and later models, including the Pixel Fold.

Apart from the Lookup feature, the tech giant recently rolled out another feature for its Phone app, called the Contacts Ringtone, which allows users to set and manage custom ringtones for their saved contact numbers. This feature appears on the Settings of the Phone App below the Audio Emoji icon, which itself is another new addition.
