Weather Update: IMD predicts heavy rainfall in Maharashtra, Karnataka and THESE states; northern and eastern India brace for heatwave

IMD weather forecast: Parts of East India, Uttar Pradesh, and northeastern Madhya Pradesh may experience heat wave conditions over the next five days.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced an increase in rainfall activity along the coasts of Karnataka and Maharashtra starting June 8. The arrival of the southwest monsoon in Maharashtra has brought much-needed relief from the scorching heat and severe water shortages affecting many parts of the state. IMD forecasts heavy rainfall in Goa, Karnataka, Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal, and Sikkim until June 10. Kerala is likely to experience heavy rainfall until June 9. Rainfall is also expected in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on June 9 and 10.

In Kerala, the Met office has issued an orange alert for Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasargod districts in Kerala for Saturday. Additionally, a yellow alert has been issued for Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, and Malappuram districts on the same day. In Madhya Pradesh, rainfall and strong winds are predicted in some parts over the next 24 hours, with an orange alert issued for districts including Barwani, Khargone, Khandwa, Indore, Dewas, Dhar, Betul, Ujjain, Jhabua, and Alirajpur.

Over the next two days, rainfall and thunderstorms are expected to persist in several areas across Northwest India. Meanwhile, isolated pockets in parts of East India, Uttar Pradesh, and northeastern Madhya Pradesh may experience heat wave conditions over the next five days.

Delhi weather update 

The Meteorological Department has predicted a partly cloudy sky for Saturday, with the chance of dust storms or thunderstorms, accompanied by light rain. The Met Office has also issued a yellow alert for the national capital today. Temperatures are expected to range between 42 and 29 degrees Celsius for the maximum and minimum, respectively. The city’s weather is undergoing a shift caused by the influence of a fresh western disturbance. The national capital was on an orange alert on Friday. 

Mumbai weather update 

Residents in Mumbai and its suburbs can anticipate a partly cloudy sky with the chance of light rain and thunderstorms. Maximum and minimum temperatures in Mumbai are forecasted to reach approximately 35 and 29 degrees Celsius, respectively. Mumbai is expected to witness the onset of the monsoon between June 9 and 10.

Heavy rains forecast for Goa till June 11

IMD has issued an orange alert for Goa, predicting heavy rains for the next four days and cautioning fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea. The state has already experienced pre-monsoon showers. The IMD forecasts heavy to very heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and winds gusting at 40-50 kmph in isolated areas of both North and South Goa districts.

Heatwave expected across northern, eastern India

From June 8 to 11, heat wave conditions are anticipated in isolated areas of northeast Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand. Bihar is expected to experience heat wave conditions on June 9-10, while Odisha, Punjab, and Haryana may encounter similar conditions from June 9-11. In Uttar Pradesh, some regions will experience heat wave to severe heat wave conditions from June 8-11. Additionally, hot and humid weather is forecasted in isolated pockets of Bihar and Gangetic West Bengal on June 8.
