Gemini Add-Ons In Workspace For Education Will Enhance Experience Of 18+ Users; Here’s How

Search leader Google announced a host of AI features at its massive Google I/O event. Continuing this series, the company has now introduced Gemini for Google Workspace for Education.

It will be available for users aged 18 and above via two new paid add-ons. The company will also introduce new functionality for “Gemini’s conversational experience” and bring additional data protection for these users without extra charges.

According to Google’s blog post, the company will allow the addition of Gemini in Google Workspace for Education edition from May 23 for 18+ users via add-ons. The first one is Gemini Education, which is priced lower and gets monthly usage limits for generative AI. “Admins can learn more about how people in their domain are trending towards their usage limits” via the Admin console.

The second add-on is Gemini Education Premium, which bundles all the benefits of Gemini Education and offers AI-based note-making and summaries in Meet and enhanced data loss prevention, among other features. It will ship with full access to the available generative AI tools.

Gemini use cases highlighted by Google include making lesson plan templates, preparing job descriptions, summarising email threads, creating images in Slides and more. Google also stated it is piloting new lesson planning features powered by its learning models LearnLM and research. Users can also chat with Gemini with enterprise-grade data protection and more.

The add-on does not ship with any minimum purchase requirement. “Coming soon, educators and students 18 years and older will have added data protection when accessing Gemini at gemini.google.com with their school accounts, free of charge,” Google said. With enhanced protection, the data will not be reviewed by anyone, shared or used in training modes.

The integration for education will be powered by Gemini 1.0 Pro across 40+ languages. As the technology is in the early days, Gemini will also offer a double-check feature to assess the statements that are different and similar to the model’s response. Meanwhile, the company also announced OpenStax and Data Commons extensions and guided practice quizzes.
