NEW DELHI: India’s merchandise exports in April 2024 increased marginally to $34.99 billion compared to $34.62 billion in the same month of the previous year, as per the data released by the central government data on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, imports also rose from $49.06 billion in April 2023 to $54.09 billion in the current year, while the trade deficit, the difference between imports and exports, amounted to $19.1 billion during the month.

Commerce secretary Sunil Barthwal, while addressing the media regarding the data expressed optimism, stating that the new fiscal year has begun on a positive note and he hopes this trend will persist.

Additionally, India’s outbound shipments witnessed a slight decline to $41.68 billion in March 2024 from $41.96 billion in the same month of the previous year.
