The Farmers’ Protest, which was started in Feb to fulfil their demands about enacting a law for MSP, is still continuing on the Punjab -Haryana border. As a result, 54 trains on a particular route have been cancelled today and for the last three days, railway movement is badly affected.

New Delhi: The Farmers’ Protest began in February, 2024 as the Delhi Chalo March where farmers from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh marched to the national capital in large numbers, so that the government could fulfil their many demands, the primary one being enactment of the law guaranteeing MSP on all crops. The farmers have been at the city’s borders ever since and recently, three of them were arrested by the Haryana Police. The Farmers’ Protest is now going on to get the arrested farmers released and amid the ongoing clash, it has negatively impacted the rail movement in the affected-areas. While the train movement has been affected for the last three days, today, 54 trains on a particular route have been cancelled because of the protest. Here’s what you need to know…
54 Trains On THIS Route Cancelled Due To Farmers’ Protest
As mentioned earlier, 54 trains have been closed down because of the ongoing Farmers’ Protest. According to the officials, a total of 54 trains on the Ambala-Amritsar route were cancelled on Saturday as farmers squatted on tracks at the Shambhu railway station in Punjab’s Patiala district for the fourth day. The protestors have been demanding the release of three farmers arrested by the Haryana Police during the ongoing stir. As many as 54 trains were cancelled on Saturday because of the farmers’ protest, railway officials said.

Farmers’ Protest: Railway Movement Affected
The protest has affected the movement of 380 trains in the last three days, causing inconvenience to passengers, they added. The farmers have been protesting under the banner of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) in Patiala district’s Shambhu. They began their protest for the release of arrested farmers on Wednesday by squatting on the tracks on the Ambala-Ludhiana-Amritsar route in Shambhu near the Punjab-Haryana border. Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher said the protest will continue until the three farmers are released.
What Is Delhi Chalo Farmers’ Protest?
The SKM (Non-Political) and the KMM are spearheading the ‘Delhi Chalo’ march by farmers to press the government to accept their demands, including legal guarantee of Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops. The farmers have been staying put at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points between Punjab and Haryana since February 13 when their march was stopped by the security forces.
