IPL 2024 Latest News: It’s Official! After days of buzz, IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal on Tuesday confirmed that the new season on the tournament will begin from March 22 next month. Dhumal also clarified that all the matches of the IPL 2024 tournament will be played in India despite the evident clash with the Lok Sabha election schedule. However, Dhumal also added that though the IPL will stay in India, the officials are working with the government agencies regarding the schedule. Dhumal further said that the IPL schedule of first 15 days will be announced. Subsequently, the roster for the next matches will be declared in phases.
This is not the first time that the IPL schedule has coincided with the Lok Sabha Elections. Back in 2014, the dates of General Polls had clashed with the IPL roster. At that time, some of the IPL matches were held in the UAE. It was only in 2009 that the full season of the IPL tournament was played overseas. Back then, the matches were played in South Africa.

Amid all the IPL frenzy, it should be noted that the T20 World Cup will also begin in second half of the 2024. Many say that the T20 World Cup will begin as soon as the IPL ends. In that scenario, in a likelihood, the IPL finale will be played in May 26.

As per the IPL tradition, the tournament opener will be played between the finalists of last season and the runners-up. This means that the IPL 2024 opener will be played between the Chennai Super Kings and the Gujarat Titans.
