How To Use UPI Abroad: India has been continuously putting its efforts to enhance seamless cross-border fund settlement using digital platforms, and to achieve it, India has introduced its Unified Payment Interface (UPI) services in nations like France, Bhutan, Nepal, Mauritius, Sri Lanka. Recently, UPI was introduced in UAE on February 13.

Customers willing to use UPI payments in Mauritius and Sri Lanka need to complete a registration process using a UPI-enabled mobile application.
Once the bank account is linked, customers are asked to submit recipient information, including the bank account number, IBAN, BIC, transfer amount and currency.
Steps to make UPI payments in Mauritius and Sri Lanka
– Open the UPI app and tap on your profile picture on the home page.

– Go to the Payment Settings section, and select UPI International.
– Click on the ‘Activate’ option next to the chosen bank account for international UPI payments.
– Confirm the activation using UPI PIN.
– Once the service gets activated, you need to scan the QR code provided by the merchant.
– Enter the amount that will be displayed in both local currency and Indian rupees.
– Click on “Pay.” Enter the UPI PIN and the transaction will be done.
