What Is EPFO?
The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is a statutory body established under the Employees’ Provident Fund Act of 1956. The creation of the Employees’ Provident Fund dates back to November 15, 1951, with the enactment of the Employees’ Provident Funds Ordinance, which was later replaced by the Employees’ Provident Funds Act of 1952.
EPFO has introduced the Universal Account Number (UAN) for its members. This unique number is assigned to every EPFO member contributing to the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) scheme. What’s noteworthy is that the UAN remains constant, even if employees switch organisations.
