Budget 2024: The Indian railway system is set to undergo a major transformation as the government plans to convert 40,000 bogies to Vande Bharat standards in the Budget 2024. This announcement was made by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, highlighting the government’s commitment to modernizing the railway infrastructure in her Budget 2024 speech. “40,000 normal rail bogies will be converted to Vande Bharat to enhance the safety, convenience, and comfort of passengers.” She also mentioned the launch of three major economic corridors programme that will be implemented to enhance the transportation of energy, cement and mineral.
“These include the energy, mineral and cement corridor, a port connectivity corridor and a high traffic density corridor,” she said while presenting the Interim Budget in the Lok Sabha.
She said that the railway projects have been identified under the PM Gati Shakti Yojana for enabling multi-modal connectivity.“These corridors will accelerate GDP growth by improving logistics efficiency and reducing logistics costs,” she said.

The Vande Bharat Express, also known as Train 18, is India’s first indigenous semi-high speed train. It was launched in 2019 and has since gained popularity for its state-of-the-art features and comfort. The train is designed to run at a maximum speed of 160 km/h, providing a faster and more efficient mode of transportation.
