Petrol, and Diesel Prices on January 8: There is a slight decline in the prices of crude oil in the international market today. At around 6 am on Monday morning, WTI crude is falling and is being sold at $ 73.67 per barrel. At the same time, Brent crude is also trading with a slight decline at $ 78.66 per barrel. Oil marketing companies in the country have released the latest rates of petrol and diesel. In India, fuel prices are revised every morning at 6 am. Before June 2017, price revision was done every 15 days.

In Gujarat, the price of petrol and diesel has increased by 56 paise. In Jharkhand, the price of petrol and diesel has increased by 28 paise. The price of petrol and diesel is also increasing in Madhya Pradesh, Goa and Odisha. At the same time, in Chhattisgarh petrol has become cheaper by 60 paise and diesel by 59 paise. In Bihar, the price of petrol has decreased by 14 paise and that of diesel by 13 paise. There is a decline in the prices of petrol and diesel in Maharashtra, Punjab, Rajasthan, and West Bengal also.
At present, petrol in Delhi is being sold at Rs 96.72 a litre while diesel is being sold at Rs 89.62 a litre. Whereas in Mumbai, petrol is available at Rs 106.31 and diesel at Rs 94.27 per litre. While petrol in Kolkata is Rs 106.03 and diesel is Rs 92.76 per litre. On the other hand, petrol is being sold at Rs 102.63 and diesel at Rs 94.24 per litre in Chennai.

In India, oil marketing companies (OMCs) such as Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum determine petrol and diesel prices. This is done daily, and rates are determined following the price of crude oil throughout the world.
Why do fuel prices vary across states?
The rates for each day, whether new or unchanged, are announced at 6 am on the day. These, however, vary from state to state; this is due to criteria such as Value Added Tax (VAT), freight charges, local taxes, etc.
