Petrol, and Diesel Prices on December 27: Today the prices of crude oil in the international market are showing an upward trend. However, the price of WTI crude is falling. At around 6 am on Wednesday morning, WTI crude is falling slightly and is being sold at $ 75.24 per barrel. At the same time, Brent crude has increased by $ 2 to reach $ 81.07 per barrel. Oil marketing companies in the country have released the latest rates of petrol and diesel. In India, fuel prices are revised every morning at 6 am. Before June 2017, price revision was done every 15 days.
There is an increase of 21 paise in the price of petrol and diesel in Uttar Pradesh. Petrol has become costlier by 44 paise and diesel by 41 paise in West Bengal. Apart from this, the price of petrol and diesel is increasing in Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka. On the other hand, in Andhra Pradesh petrol has become cheaper by 21 paise and diesel by 19 paise. In Himachal Pradesh too, the prices of petrol and diesel have fallen by 28 and 26 paise respectively. A decline in prices is also visible in Jammu and Kashmir, Goa and Telangana.
At present, petrol in Delhi is being sold at Rs 96.72 a litre while diesel is being sold at Rs 89.62 a litre. Whereas in Mumbai, petrol is available at Rs 106.31 and diesel at Rs 94.27 per litre. While petrol in Kolkata is Rs 106.03 and diesel is Rs 92.76 per litre. On the other hand, petrol is being sold at Rs 102.63 and diesel at Rs 94.24 per litre in Chennai.

In India, oil marketing companies (OMCs) such as Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum determine petrol and diesel prices. This is done daily, and rates are determined in accordance with the price of crude oil throughout the world.
Why do fuel prices vary across states?
The rates for each day, whether new or unchanged, are announced at 6 am on the day. These, however, vary from state to state; this is due to criteria such as Value Added Tax (VAT), freight charges, local taxes, etc.
